A demon is a supernatural being, typically associated with evil , prevalent historically in religion , occultism , literature , fiction , mythology , and folklore ; as well as in media such as comics , video games , movies , anime , and television series. The original Greek word daimon does not carry negative connotations. In Ancient Near Eastern religions and in the Abrahamic traditions , including ancient and medieval Christian demonology , a demon is considered a harmful spiritual entity which may cause demonic possession , calling for an exorcism.

He turns them round and round upon the wheel of Maya. Take refuge utterly in Him. By his grace you will find supreme peace, and the state which is beyond all change. This paper is about different spiritual and religious traditions in the world and how they have or could in the future contribute to the creation of a global culture of peace. As the above quotations indicate, almost all of the world's religions, in their own sacred writings and scriptures, say that they support "peace".

The word indigenous refers to anything that is native to a particular geographical region. This includes people, cultures, languages, or species of plants or animals. The Aborigines of Australia, for example, are an indigenous people, in contrast to the European settlers who arrived on the continent long after. Similarly, American Indians are the indigenous peoples of North America. A synonym often used for indigenous is "native," but the word native in connection with peoples and their cultures is potentially offensive. It could be considered a stereotype, suggesting that they are primitive or backward. Scholars those who research and study a subject in-depth often distinguish between two types of indigenous religions.

It is also commonly regarded as consisting of the way people deal with ultimate concerns about their lives and their fate after death. In many religions, texts are deemed to have scriptural status, and people are esteemed to be invested with spiritual or moral authority. Believers and worshippers participate in and are often enjoined to perform devotional or contemplative practices such as prayer , meditation , or particular rituals. Worship , moral conduct, right belief , and participation in religious institutions are among the constituent elements of the religious life. The subject of religion is discussed in a number of articles. Indigenous Religions

Polytheism , the belief in many gods. Polytheism characterizes virtually all religions other than Judaism , Christianity , and Islam , which share a common tradition of monotheism , the belief in one God. Sometimes above the many gods a polytheistic religion will have a supreme creator and focus of devotion, as in certain phases of Hinduism there is also the tendency to identify the many gods as so many aspects of the Supreme Being ; sometimes the gods are considered as less important than some higher goal, state, or saviour, as in Buddhism ; sometimes one god will prove more dominant than the others without attaining overall supremacy, as Zeus in Greek religion. Typically, polytheistic cultures include belief in many demonic and ghostly forces in addition to the gods, and some supernatural beings will be malevolent; even in monotheistic religions there can be belief in many demons, as in New Testament Christianity. Polytheism can bear various relationships to other beliefs.

Religious experiences can be characterized generally as experiences that seem to the person having them to be of some objective reality and to have some religious import. That reality can be an individual, a state of affairs, a fact, or even an absence, depending on the religious tradition the experience is a part of. A wide variety of kinds of experience fall under the general rubric of religious experience.

The nature of polytheism
