Organofluorine Chemistry
Important raw materials in fluoro chemical industry such as hydrogen fluoride, fluorine gas, fluoro monomers have been widely used as a fluorine source or a fluorinated building block. Some typical examples of fluorination reactions with these raw materials and the related recent advances are briefly introduced. Already have an account? Login in here. Sandford durham. Fluorine is an essential element for life in the developed world that impacts hugely on the general public because many pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, anaesthetics, materials and air conditioning materials owe their important properties to the presence of fluorine atoms within their structures. All fluorine atoms used in organic chemistry are ultimately sourced from a mined raw material, fluorspar CaF 2 , but, given current usage and global reserve estimates, there is only sufficient fluorspar available for a further years. New large scale raw material sources of fluorine are available but must be sufficiently developed for the benefits of fluorinated systems to continue in the long term.

Electrochemical fluorination ECF , or electrofluorination , is a foundational organofluorine chemistry method for the preparation of fluorocarbon -based organofluorine compounds. The fluorinated chemical compounds produced by ECF are useful because of their distinctive solvation properties and the relative inertness of carbon—fluorine bonds. Two ECF synthesis routes are commercialized and commonly applied: the Simons process and the Phillips Petroleum process.

Methods for synthesis of chiral organic compounds bearing trifluoromethyl-substituted stereocenters are of great interest for agrochemical and pharmaceutical labs and industries in their search for new bioactive materials. We report on employment of bisfunctionalized electrophiles, bearing both a trifluoromethyl and a functional group as direct substituents of the reactive center, in cross-coupling reactions.
