What are Open Loop & Closed Loop system

A system is defined as the collection of blocks connected together to execute a process. In electronic theory, a system can be said as a group of interconnected electronic devices, in which each individual system having its own input — output relation, to control the other block by connecting its output further to its next system. The control system can also be defined as the group of devices which are used to control or regulate the functioning of other system. Sometimes, to attain the consistency and stability of a system and to produce the desired output of a control systems, we use feedback loop. A feedback is nothing but a part of output signal. This concept is most frequent and important in control systems , to achieve stability of the output. The feedback loop connected to the input of the system enables the system to adjust with its parameters to get the desired output response.

A system is a combination of a functional unit that acts together in such a manner as to achieve the desired objective. The above figure shows that the Block diagram of a representation of the system. It produces an output corresponding to a given input signal in accordance with some rule. There can be any number of input and output signals. A system can be Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic, pneumatic, Chemical, Analog and digital or combination. All these dynamic variables together with the dynamic changes taking place in the system constitute a process.

Open-loop control system :. A system in which the output is dependent on input but controlling action is totally independent of the output is called an Open-loop system. It is also referred to as a non-feedback system, which is a type of continuous control system in which the output has no influence or effect on the control action of the input signal. The below figure is a basic open-loop system, in which the operator is controlling the tank level by throttling the manual valve by hand by looking at the indication in the transparent hose pipe and controlling the level by a manual hand valve. So it controls different devices as well as systems with the help of control loops. Control systems are classified into two types like open loop and closed loop. This article discusses an overview of the difference between open-loop and closed-loop control systems. It is very simple, needs low maintenance, quick operation, and cost-effective. The accuracy of this system is low and less dependable.
